You are correct, we don't appear to have any career guides in print regarding how to become a dog/animal trainer.

However, all is not lost.

If you have a library card with us, you can log in to our Career Cruising website via our digital library.  You'll find it most easily in the A-Z list.

Once you've accessed the careercruising.com database by typing in your library card number, look for the link on the left hand side of the page titled "Explore Careers."

Click this link, and search at the next page: "Animal Trainer"

Next you'll see a results page with a link for "Animal Trainer" click this link.  This will bring up a page with lots of information about what it's like to work as an animal trainer, compensation, work environment, educational requirements, animal training in different fields,  and the like.

You can also check out the Federal information on Animal Training by looking up the job in the Occupational Outlook Handbook.

Good luck.  If you have any questions, feel free to write back to us or call at 225-231-3750.
