Good question!

With a tween card, attempting to check out items from the adult or general collection will cause our circulation system to pause your check-out.

In the catalog, you can reserve any items denoted by an "X" or "Juv" for children's items (generally found in the children's room) or YA (generally located with the Young Adult collection).

Items do not necessarily fit into different collections based on the MPAA ratings (That is, the G/PG/PG-13/R etc. system).

Therefore you may find that many items are immediately available to you via the children's and YA collection, while other items with similar ratings have been placed in the adult or general collection.

Here is our current policy on tween cards:

Tween Library Card
  • Children age 12-14 are eligible for a Tween Card.
  • A parent or guardian must accept responsibility for overdue fines and lost/damaged materials. Tween Cards may be used to check out materials from the Teen and Children’s Collections.
  • At age 12 or in the sixth grade a child who has never had a card or who has a child card with no charges on it, may register for a Tween Card.
  • Children may register using the parent’s I.D. with the same requirements as an adult card. The parent must sign with the child.
