We receive 34 different newspapers.  Most papers are only kept for a month before being discarded.   We do have the full run of the Advocate, the Times Picayune, and the New York Times on Microfilm.  Most of these are delayed for a three month period before we receive them on microfilm.  So, for instance, the last roll we have of the Advocate is from August-September of this year.

However, we have a resource database called Newsbank that will allow you to search the Times Picayune, the NY Times, the Advocate and other state newspapers from the present back to 1986.  It does not include pictures, advertisements, or classified information such as legal notices, cars for sale, and the like, but it does include the full text of articles.

LSU's libraries also provides access to Newspaper through Lexis-Nexis.  The public library does not subscribe to Lexis-Nexis; contact Middleton's Reference service at 578-5652.

If you would like to browse Newsbank, you will need a library card.  Go to our online database page and click "Newsbank." Enter your library card number to log in and begin your search.

If you just want to see a list of the 34 Newspapers we carry, please go to our online catalog.

Go to the "More Search Options" tab.

In the search term box, type in the word "Newspaper" then change the drop down menu next to it from "keyword" to "call no."

Click the "Go!" button to the right of the boxes.

This will bring up all 34 newspapers in our system.
