Your file associations may be set so that .ACSM files are opened by your reader's software instead of Digital Editions.  Check your reader's "library" to see if the book appears there.  If it's there you can just drag and drop it into your reader and you're good to go.

But -- since Overdrive doesn't provide support for anything but Adobe Digital Editions, you really should change how your computer handles the Overdrive files and set it so that Overdrive books go to Digital Editions.  Here's how:

1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Default Programs > Associate a file type or protocol with a program.

2. Under the 'Extensions' heading, select '.acsm' and click the 'Change program...' button.

3. Select Adobe Digital Editions from the 'Recommended Programs' list.

4. Click OK.

When you've successfully completed these steps, your Overdrive titles will go straight to Digital Editions and you can transfer them to your reader.
