The McNaughton call number on the labels of some books is part of a rental program where we buy LOTS of copies of a particular book that (usually) makes the bestsellers list or is already on there. And then once demand dies down we ship the books back to the company so we can get credits to buy more really popular books. Essentially, it's a program to make sure we have a lot of copies of popular books as soon as people start demanding them. The trick for you is to ask or search in the catalog before their publication date and we can put you on the hold list.

As for the "Float" label on the back, that's an internal note that basically means the book stays where it has been returned as opposed to being shipped back to the library branch from which it originated. It's a pilot program that many libraries have done very successfully, so we're trying it out.
