A claimes returned item is an item that is missing but shows checked out to a patron. The patron may have returned it and for some reason, the check in did not register. At this point, because the item is missing and the patron believes it was checked in, a claims returned status may be assigned to the item. That status is assigned with approval from a Circulation staff member.
